The short verdict
If what you love about Skyrim is living in a world — breaking into houses at night, brewing potions, getting hauled in front of a guard — Kingdom Come: Deliverance II is the strongest alternative Skyrim experience available today. It trades fantasy for 15th-century Bohemia and leans hard into simulation, so it asks more patience of you, but it rewards it with the most reactive first-person open world on PC.

What feels like Skyrim
- First-person open world packed with villages, castles and side stories you stumble into.
- Skills improve by using them — sneak to get sneakier, talk to get more persuasive.
- Crime, reputation, lockpicking and alchemy all work as interconnected systems.
What is different
- No magic or fantasy creatures — it is a historically grounded medieval setting.
- You play Henry, a fixed protagonist with his own backstory, not a blank-slate character.
- Directional melee combat with a real learning curve.
- Manual saving uses a consumable item (Savior Schnapps) as well as save-on-quit.
