The fine print, kept short
Privacy & community guidelines
Privacy
No accounts, no tracking ads
Alternative Skyrim has no sign-up. When you first visit, we create an anonymous adventurer identity — a random name and a generated avatar — so you can vote and review. We do not ask for your name, email or any other personal details.
What we store
- One cookie (
as_uid) holding a random ID, signed so it cannot be forged. It keeps your identity the same when you return, for up to two years. It is strictly needed for voting and reviewing, and is never used for advertising. - What you post: your reviews, votes, nominations and reports, linked to that random ID.
- A one-way hash of your IP address (salted, so the IP itself cannot be recovered). We use it only to stop spam and vote manipulation, for example limiting how many identities one network can create per day.
Services we use
- Cloudflare hosts the site and database, and its Turnstile check helps tell humans from bots when you post. See Cloudflare’s privacy policy.
- YouTube videos load only when you click play, using YouTube’s privacy-enhanced (nocookie) mode.
- Google Fonts serves the site’s typefaces.
Your choices
You can delete any of your own reviews at any time. Clearing your browser cookies removes your link to your identity (you will get a new one). To ask us to remove content tied to your identity, use the “Spotted a mistake?” button on any page and include the review’s text.
Community guidelines
Reviews here exist to help Skyrim fans choose their next game. Reviews are published immediately and moderated afterwards.
- Be helpful. Compare with Skyrim, say who the game is for — and who should skip it.
- Be honest. Only review games you have actually played. Up to 3 reviews per game, so you can update your take as you play more.
- No links or advertising. Posts containing links are rejected automatically.
- No harassment, hate or personal attacks — towards players, developers or anyone else.
- Warn before spoilers. Start with “Spoilers:” if you discuss story twists.
- No vote manipulation. Creating extra identities to boost a game is not allowed and is limited automatically.
Anyone can report a review. Reviews reported by several players are hidden until a moderator checks them; moderators may restore or remove them. We never edit what you wrote.
